Magic Island
Corey Kilgannon releases his EP “Magic Island” in collaboration with Brazilian composer Alexandre Lunardelli. Recorded at Ouié Studios in Florianópolis, Brazil, the American singer and songwriter brings a fusion of his compositions with Brazilian rhythms such as Bossa Nova, Samba, and Ijexá.
The album showcases Florianópolis from the perspective of a foreigner visiting for the first time. The lyrics address themes related to the "island of magic," including folktales about witches, the legend of the formation of the Conceição and Peri lagoons, and the singer’s personal experiences on the island.

Kilgannon first visited Florianópolis in 2017, during which he composed most of the songs in collaboration with Lunardelli.

Under the musical direction of pianist Alexandre Lunardelli, the album features top-tier musicians from the Santa Catarina music scene: Gabriel Barbalho (trumpet), Carlos Schmidt (trombone), Fábio Mello (saxophone/flute), Rafael Calegari (bass), Edu Pimentel (guitar), Neno Moura (drums), Alexandre Damaria (percussion), and Marcelo Portela (rebec).
